Ceramic onlays are a larger version on an inlay and is sometimes referred to as a ¾ crown. Ceramic inlays and onlays are popular because they resemble your natural tooth and are much stronger than regular fillings. As with ceramic crowns, our office uses digital technology to make same day ceramic inlays eliminating a second office visit and an uncomfortable delay between appointments.
A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape, size, and beauty. A crown protects, strengthens, and preserves tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations. In most dental offices a ceramic crown is made by a professional dental laboratory and is permanently cemented onto the tooth by your dentist after a three week wait. During this time while the permanent crown is being made, a plastic, temporary crown is placed on the tooth to protect it.
